Our Mission
Enhance village life by providing a place where community gathers and all individuals achieve personal growth.
The Cotuit Library serves tens of thousands of patrons each year and attracts visitors from across the region. Some come in daily to read the newspaper, others want to learn to play cribbage. Toddlers visit with their parents to sing and dance, tweens come in to do homework. We host informative speakers, craft swaps, first aid training, poetry groups and more.
The library is one of the only places that celebrates all people and all interests. There is something for everyone, and all belong to our warm, welcoming community.
Over the past year:
We served over 36,000 patrons, a significant amount of traffic for a village with an estimated population of 4,800
About 57,000 items circulated
We held just over 450 programs with about 3,500 participants
xxx people received Tech Help to learn how to use their electronic devices, send e-mails or organize their photos
We’re where people go when they need help of any kind, whether that’s unlocking a stubborn car door, renewing a driver’s license, taking the bus into Boston, finding the perfect next book to read, or just to have a friendly chat.
Each day Cotuit Library opens its doors to everyone, regardless of race, creed, socioeconomic background, needs, or challenges.
As some of the last truly free places in our society for people to gather, libraries are central to creating healthy, sustainable communities. We not only offer a wide range of unbiased, diverse books and materials, but we also enhance, advocate for, and support the lives of our visitors and communities. We see a clear connection between literacy and civic engagement, and between education and leadership.
Cotuit Library is proud to be part of a long legacy of libraries and educational institutions. Libraries today are about so much more than books. In addition to being places where people can get – for free – pretty much any book or periodical, we offer informative programs, game groups, and children’s reading and movement hours. We even offer local pickup and delivery for patrons needing additional flexibility. We are one of the only places where everyone is welcome, can learn, and connect with community.
